LPA, ‘habagat’ to bring rain showers across PH

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

Rain showers will dampen most parts of the country Monday due to the southwest monsoon or habagat and a low pressure area (LPA), the weather bureau said.

In its weather bulletin issued at 4 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was last tracked 635 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.

“Based on analysis, the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours,” PAGASA said.

The LPA, however, will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao provinces, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate.

The same weather condition will prevail over Western and Central Visayas, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga Peninsula due to habagat.

Flash floods or landslides are likely in those areas during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over the western section of central and southern Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA)-ngs
