LTFRB to implement bus route overhaul if NCR is placed under GCQ

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) aims to implement an overhaul in bus routes in Metro Manila if it levels down to general community quarantine.

The LTFRB plans to make only one route from the 60 routes in EDSA and only 29 bus routes will be given special franchise from the 66 bus routes in Metro Manila.

“The public transport system, and I’m referring to the land-based public transport system, is in dire need of reform, even pre-COVID scenario.” LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Martin Delgra pointed out.

The agency confirmed that there will be no change or fare hike in public utility vehicles in case their operations resume.

House Transportation Panel Chairperson Edgar Sarmiento has stated that having no fare hike is reasonable especially in this time of crisis where Filipinos are also having a hard time due to the enhanced community quarantine.

However, Chairperson Edgar Sarmiento has ensured that all public transportation will be given fuel subsidy as aid to drivers. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has assured that they are prepared to lift the ban on public transport in Metro Manila any time. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
