The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said Thursday, May 4, that it is studying the possibility of shortening the exam for driver’s license to simplify its processes and to cut down the activities of fixers.

A team has been formed to make the exam comprehensive without compromising the quality of drivers passing the exam, according to the LTO.

“The instruction I gave to our committee was to compress the exam. This exam reportedly takes about an hour. The agency is now studying how to shorten the exam,” LTO chief Jay Art Tugade said.

“I believe that by reducing the exam duration, our applicants will not seek out fixers and will opt to take the exam themselves,” he added.

The committee will also look into customizing the exams based on the applicants’ license classification and driver’s license codes.

Among those being studied are the exams for new applicants of non-professional license and conductor’s license, a new classification from non-professional to professional license, and an additional driver’s license code. – cf
