Lucban Police viral FB post stirs public reaction

A Facebook post from the Lucban Municipal Police Station in Quezon stirred different reactions from the public. The viral post reminding women to wear “proper” clothing to avoid harassment has received mostly negative feedback and is now deleted from the page.

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), it will not tolerate that kind of social media post in its organization.

PNP Chief Police General Archie Gamboa ordered the chief of Lucban and their staff to explain the post.

PNP Spokesperson BGen. Bernard Banac disclosed that the PNP has rules to implement for posts on their social media accounts. In line with this, the police holding the social media accounts of different units of the PNP will undergo an online seminar.

“As part of the corrective measures, DPCR will conduct webinars to train and/or reorient the personnel on gender sensitivity and awareness, PNP CMC on Social Media Protocols, and other relevant laws,” PNP-DPCR Director PMGen. Dionardo Carlos has stated.

Meanwhile, the PNP clarified that the particular social media post does not reveal the institution’s opinion on the issue involving women.

“Ang PNP ay isa sa mga nagsusulong sa adbokasiya sa mga karapatan ng kababaihan at mga kabataan. (The PNP is pushing for the advocacy on the rights of women and children.) We have the Women and Children Protection center primarily to advocate the rights of women and children,” PNP Spokesperson Bernard Banac ensured. – Report from Bea Bernardo
