Magnitude 7.3 quake jolts Sarangani; aftershocks expected

A magnitude 7.3 earthquake jolted Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 18, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake hit 352 kilometers (km) southeast of Sarangani at 2:06 p.m.

It had a depth of 64 km.

Instrumental Intensity II was felt in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Glan and Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City, Tupi, Santo Nino, Koronadal City, and T’Boli, South Cotabato.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity I was also felt in Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Maitum and Maasim, Sarangani; Tantangan, Lake Sebu; Tampakan, Suralla, and Norala, South Cotabato; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Damages and aftershocks are expected.
