Close family ties lie at the heart of Filipino culture, which extends to sharing stories and cherished memories at the dining table.
This, as Malacañang ordered the suspension of work in government offices starting at 1:00 p.m. on September 28, as part of the observance of the 34th National Family Week.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 136 released late Thursday, shortened work hours will be observed in all government agencies and instrumentalities under the Executive branch, including government-owned or -controlled corporations (GOCCs) and state universities and colleges (SUCs).
The work suspension shall provide government employees and their families with ample time to share meals and bond together in celebration of the Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day.
Moreover, the National Family Week places a premium on Filipino families as the indispensable basic unit of society, while keeping alive the tradition that keeps the bond alive.
The MC read, “Government workers in the Executive branch are encouraged to fully support the programs and activities relative to the observance of 34th National Family Week, as organized by the National Committee on the Filipino Family.”
However, government agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, disaster and calamity preparedness and response, and other vital services will continue operations and render the necessary services.
The Memorandum is pursuant to Proclamation No. 60 s. 1992 and Proclamation No. 326 s. 2012, which recognizes the importance of family time accompanied by good food.
