DAVAO CITY – If she has her will, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio wants to stay as mayor of this city and not to aspire for any national position.

“Ang akong plano gyud is for Davao City. Kay kitang tanan live and work in Davao City (My plan is really for Davao City. This is because we all live and work here),” she said.

But the mayor was grateful for the trust of the people in the latest Pulse Asia survey, showing her in the magic 12 of winning senatoriables next year.

“Magpasalamat ko sa trust and confidence sa katawhan, sa akong capacity which they think I can be a senator for our country (I thank them for their trust and confidence on my capacity that I could be a senator for our country), ” Duterte-Carpio said in an interview at the sidelines of the 15th Anniversary of Task Force Davao on Tuesday.

On the latest survey, the mayor got the 4th-7th possible places with 43.8 percent if she decides to run in the midterm election next year.

“Og hantod didto na lang. Pasalamat ko and I cannot answer anymore questions about sa pagdagan because everyday is changing ang senaryo (And that’s all. I am thankful and I cannot answer anymore questions about the possibility of running the Senate because the scenario is changing everyday),” she added.

But, the mayor said she could not discount all possibilities since she believes in fate.

“Usahay wa man gud ka kabalo kung asa ka ibutang sa Ginoo on a certain day and on a certain time kay Ginoo ra gyud ang makatubag ana tanan, (Sometimes, we do not know where you will be placed by God on a certain day and on a certain time because He is the only one who could answer that),” she said.

The mayor said she can only pray for wisdom and guidance from God on her possible future decisions.

“Akoa, kung ganahan ang mga taga Davao sa akoa, ganahan ra pud baya ko nga diri lang sa siyudad sa Davao (For me, if people of the city still want me, I would be delighted to stay here),” she said.

In the Pulse Asia survey, Duterte-Carpio and other officials got in the magic 12 of the possible senatoriables.

Senator Grace Poe took the driver seat with 70.8%; in 2nd to 3rd places are Senator Cynthia Villar (55.6%) and Taguig City Representative Pia Cayetano (53.8%). Senator Nancy Binay in 4th to 6th places (45.8%) while Senator Edgardo Angara, Jr. (44.9%) shared 4th to 7th places. For his part, Senate President Aquilino Martin Pimentel III finds himself in 5th to 9th places (39.8%).

The survey was conducted last March 23 to 28, 2018 using face-to-face interviews on 1,200 respondents.

The survey has a ± 3 percent margin of error at 95 percent confidence level. Subnational estimates for each of the geographic areas covered in the survey in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
