MILF sub-leader gunned down in North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – Gunmen shot dead Thursday a sub-leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Barangay Poblacion, Carmen, North Cotabato, police said.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, speaking for police in North Cotabato, said Haliludin Galay, 48, of Barangay Kibayao, Carmen town was driving his motorbike when shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen at around 10 a.m. Thursday.

Tayong said Galay, a known sub-commander of the MILF’s Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces in the area, sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and on his back from .45 caliber pistols. He died instantly.

“He came from the town public market and was heading for home when the crime occurred along Everlasting Street in Carmen,” Tayong added. Galay was immediately buried by relatives Thursday afternoon according to Islamic rites.

Tayong surmised the incident could have been triggered by “rido” (clan war). He said several witnesses have forwarded statements that could help the police solve the crime. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
