MRT resumes ops after Holy Week maintenance shutdown

By Aerol John Pateña | Philippine News Agency

MANILA — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has resumed its regular operations Monday after it was shut down for the entire Holy Week for maintenance.

In its advisory, the MRT management said a total of 15 trains are running with a headway time of seven minutes as of 6 a.m.

MRT-3 director for operations Michael Capati said the maintenance works aim to improve operations, in parallel with the rehabilitation of the system.

“The maintenance involves fixing the trains, rails, and other facilities of the MRT system,” Capati said. “We expect our commuters of convenience in travel as our trains are in safe condition,” he added.

In a statement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said simulation tests were done last Sunday to ensure the reliability of the train parts, tracks and the whole system of the MRT-3.

The MRT Maintenance Transition Team was able to fix 17 trains to ensure that it would be able to sustain the deployment of 15 trains, with two back-up trains daily.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has issued special permits to more than 300 bus units to ferry commuters to their destinations along the MRT-3 route, between North Avenue in Quezon City and Taft Avenue in Pasay, under the EDSA Bus Augmentation Program during the maintenance shutdown.
