Muslim biz group welcomes imminent passing of Bangsamoro law

MANILA — The Bangsamoro Business Club (BBC) is eagerly looking forward to the possible enactment of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL). The bill may be signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte within 48 hours, it was reported.

BBC President Mohamad Omar Pasigan said the Bangsamoro Organic Law will greatly enhance prospects for economic development of Muslim-dominated provinces in the country’s south. “It’s the security of the investors and the business that is now almost guaranteed. We can see that the agricultural and industrial will be the most focused of the investors,” Pasigan said in a text message.

In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) Monday, Duterte gave a 48 hour timeframe to enact the Bangsamoro Organic bill into law, as he would like to study the document first before signing it.

The Senate ratified the bill early this day, but it was not ratified in the House of Representatives.“Despite all that has been said against the BOL by the sectoral groups, I make the solemn commitment this administration will never deny our Muslim brothers and sisters the basic legal tools to chart their own destiny within this constitutional framework of our country,” said Duterte. (Kris Crismundo/PNA)
