NCR to implement 8PM to 4AM curfew under ECQ

The curfew hours in the National Capital Region (NCR) has been extended to 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. starting August 6, or on the onset of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the region.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Benhur Abalos said in the August 2 Palace briefing that NCR mayors have unanimously agreed on the extended curfew.

Abalos said local government units (LGUs) are given discretion on whether they will impose liquor bans. Makati, Taguig, Pasig, and Las Piñas currently do not impose a liquor ban.

The officials said public transportation during the ECQ period will remain operational for frontline workers, essential workers, and vaccine recipients.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the current general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions in NCR and the two-week ECQ will reduce newly reported cases by September.

“[Ang] projection ay aabot hanggang 525,000 cases on or before September 26, kung mananatili tayo sa GCQ ng apat na lingo,” Roque said, adding that new cases will be lower than 50,000 with the implementation of one-week GCQ and three-week MECQ.

Updated quarantine

Based on the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) Resolution No. 130-D, Laguna, and Aklan will be escalated to modified ECQ (MECQ) from GCQ with heightened restrictions. This will take effect from August 1 to 15.

Apayao province will also be escalated anew to MECQ from the regular ECQ until August 15.

Cebu province, however, will be de-escalated to GCQ with heightened restrictions from MECQ, from August 1 to 15. – Report from Mela Lesmoras/AG-rir
