The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council through the Office of Civil Defense will hold its 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill for this year, once again, via online ceremonial pressing of the button tomorrow, 12 November 2020, 9:00 a.m.

Despite the pandemic and Typhoon “Ulysses”, the 4th Quarter NSED is set to push through as part of the continuous effort to promote earthquake preparedness along with awareness of tsunami emergencies.

The live stream of the online ceremonial pressing of the button can be watched on Civil Defense – CBTS Facebook page. The siren will serve as the signal for the public watching the live stream to perform the Duck, Cover, and Hold in their houses and offices.

The 4th Quarter NSED is scheduled every November to promote both earthquake and tsunami preparedness. This is in support of the World Tsunami Awareness Day which is being observed every 5th of the said month.

A tsunami preparedness webinar as part of the activities of the 4th Quarter NSED was held yesterday.

Civil Defense Administrator and NDRRMC Executive Director Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad enjoins the public to participate in the NSED as he emphasized the importance of preparedness.

“Muli naming inaanyayahan ang lahat na makiisa sa Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. Kailanman, mahalaga na maging handa ang bawat isa sa anumang sakuna na lagi’t lagi ay para sa ating kaligtasan,” Usec. Jalad.
