No extension for ITR filing: BIR

ILIGAN CITY — There will be no extension for taxpayers to file their Internal Tax Return (ITR) after April 16.

Amanoding Esmail, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) district officer for Iligan City, said the April 15 deadline was moved the next day as it falls on a Sunday, a non-working day.

Esmail said BIR-Iligan personnel will start serving taxpayers as early as 8 a.m. to accommodate those trying to beat the deadline.

“We will be serving taxpayers on Saturday April 14 since Friday, the 13th of April is a Muslim holiday,” he added.

He also clarified that the April 16 deadline was for individual taxpayers only, and that self-employed and professionals may also start filing their 2018 first quarter paperwork before May 15.

To avoid inconvenience and common issues during the last day of filing, Esmail advised taxpayers to file now or before the deadline.

Esmail said taxpayers will face corresponding penalties of up to 25 percent surcharge, 20 percent interest per annum, if they can’t beat the deadline. (Irma Boza/PNA)
