NoKor seeks “right view”, “correct understanding” on nuke issue

MANILA, Aug. 7 — The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) said a “right view” and “correct understanding” on its nuclear issue should be established if the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers aim to contribute to resolving the situation in the Korean Peninsula.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, in a statement  released to media on Monday, he said the “member states of the Forum should know correctly with distinction whether our possession of nukes and ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile poses a “global threat” as clamoured by the U.S. or a the threat confined to the U.S. alone”.

He noted that “DPRK’s position of nuke and ICBM is a legitimate option for self-defense” with the threat posed by the U.S. to DPRK.

On Monday, members of the media covering the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meeting in Manila immediately went to New World Hotel in Manila from the International Media Center in Pasay City as the DPRK delegation announced a 6-p.m. press conference here. (PNA)
