Non-stop rains submerge villages in Bulacan

MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan — Continuous rains caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Depression Henry and a low pressure area submerged several villages in Meycauayan City and in the towns of Marilao and Obando in this province.

Based on the monitoring of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office (PDRRMO) of Bulacan, as of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the Lias – Ibayo Road in Marilao was not passable to light vehicles.

PDRRMO chief Liz Mungcal reported that the low-lying areas that have been flooded in Meycauayan City since Tuesday were the villages of Tugatog; Caingin; Saluysoy; Camalig; Poblacion; Malhacan; and Bangcal, which were under one foot to two feet of floodwater.

In Marilao town, the villages of Ibayo; Abangan Sur; Poblacion II; Nagbalon; and Poblacion I were also under one to two feet of floodwater while Barangay  Panghulo in Obando town was under 1 to 1.5-foot floodwater.

Mungcal said that based on the latest reports from PDRRMO, evacuation operations are being conducted in several flood-hit villages in the city of Meycauayan and Marilao.

As of press time, some 162 individuals from the villages of Malhacan and Caingin in Meycauayan City were evacuated to the barangay hall while 203 persons were transferred to the Pamantasan Dalubhasaan ng Marilao.

Relief distribution teams with medical personnel were sent to assist the flood victims.

The Bulacan PDRRMC also distributed Doxycycline antibiotic and ointment to residents in flooded areas of Hagonoy; Marilao; Obando; and Meycauayan City.

Meanwhile, the water elevation of Angat Dam as of 6 a.m. Wednesday was recorded at 191.02 meters; Ipo Dam at 101.00 meters; and Bustos Dam at 16.15 meters. Their corresponding flood season high water levels are 210; 101; and 17.50 meters, respectively.

Due to continuous heavy rains being experienced in the province, acting Governor Daniel R. Fernando again suspended classes in all levels for both public and private schools. (Manny Balbin/PNA)
