MANILA — The National Privacy Commission (NPC) reminds all Personal Information Controllers (PICs) in public and private offices to submit their Annual Security Incident Report for 2017 until March 31.
PICs control the collection, holding, processing, and use of personal information.
Under the country’s data privacy law, all PICs are required to submit Annual Security Incident Report to the NPC.
The report contains information on security incidents affecting personal data handled by PICs. These incidents may affect data protection, compromise availability, integrity, and confidentiality of personal data.
An incident shall also include occurrence resulting in personal data breach, if not for safeguards that have been put in place.
“When properly collated, the data becomes an invaluable management resource that enables a PIC to assess its reaction time for every crucial event,” Privacy Commissioner and Chairman Raymund Enriquez Liboro said.
“From the moment an incident occurred to its discovery, and to the time it took for the internal breach response team to properly diagnose the situation, decide on an action, deploy contingency measures and notify the NPC if necessary,” he added.
Liboro noted that the NPC is giving ample time to PICs to submit their security incidents report before the deadline. (PNA)
