Over P109-M road improvement projects up in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY — The District Engineering Office (DEO) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here is ready to implement three road projects worth PHP109, 224, 669.22 in this city before this quarter.

District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo on Tuesday requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) for the reschedule of temporary partial road closure and traffic assistance on February 19 to September 30, 2018, the period when the projects are expected to go full swing.

Data obtained from DEO showed that the first project worth PHP71.372 million is expected to start February 26. This covers the construction/improvement of Santa Cruz to Bonifacio Street road in support of the loom weaving industry in Arevalo district of this city.

The project, which is expected to be completed within the 139 calendar days, is funded under the 2018 DPWH convergence and special support program for roads leading to trades, industries and economic zones.

The 3, 176.61 lineal meter project was awarded to the East Asia Construction.

On the other hand, the construction/improvement of the Yulo Street leading to Esplanade, Molo Church, Cathedral Church, Tatoy’s Beach Resort, Molo Mansion, Bahay na Bato and Sinamay Dealer all in Arevalo district will begin on March 5.

The project is funded under the 2018 DPWH convergence and special support program for roads leading to declared tourism destinations amounting to PHP13.659 million.

It was awarded to the GF Falcis Construction and Supply and is expected to be completed in 60 calendar days.

The third project is the PHP24.193 million reconstruction from paved to concrete road project of the 1,170 lineal meter portion of the Molo Boulevard.

Gustilo said that projects implemented under the convergence program are validated with concerned offices.

He underscored the significance of the project as they “would provide good roads going to tourism destination areas and industries”. (Perla Lena/PNA)
