P11-M public market to rise in Iloilo town

ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo Provincial Government on Thursday turned over PHP11-million financial assistance to the local government unit of San Rafael, Iloilo for the construction of a public market.

Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. personally handed over the check to San Rafael Mayor Bert Belleza at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.

The public market of the town was gutted by fire few years ago. Since the town is a fifth class municipality, its financial capabilities is quite limited to fund the project.

Belleza said the financial assistance for the public market would “help a lot in the economic status” of their town.

Belleza said that the construction of the planned two-storey public market building is expected to start in the first quarter of 2018. (Perla Lena/PNA)
