P6-M worth of shabu found hidden in CCTV cameras

The Bureau of Customs-Port of Clark (BOC-Clark) seized one kilogram of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) worth an estimated P6.126 million that they found hidden inside four CCTV cameras in an export shipment bound for Auckland, New Zealand.

BOC-Clark worked in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS)-Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF), and the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) on this operation, “consistent [with] President Rodrigo Duterte’s fight against illegal drugs and [BOC] Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero’s mandate to intensify [the] anti-illegal drugs campaign,” the BOC said.

Acting on reliable information that an export shipment declared as “CCTV camera and video recorder” contained illegal drugs, the ESS-CAIDTF coordinated with the port’s export unit and CIIS to put the shipment on hold.

A physical examination was then conducted on the subject shipment in the presence of CIIS personnel and ESS-CAIDTF and PDEA agents, yielding six packs of suspected shabu concealed inside four CCTV cameras. A PDEA chemical laboratory analysis report confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine hydrochloride.

District Collector Alexandra Lumontad issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the subject shipment for violation of Section 118 (g), 119 (d), and 1113 par. f & l (3 & 4) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act) in relation to RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).

On Aug. 27, the illegal drugs were turned over to PDEA pursuant to Customs Administrative Order No. 03-2020.

According to the BOC, “The Port of Clark, under Guerrero’s leadership, will continuously strengthen its effort against illegal drugs through consistent coordination with PDEA and CAIDTF to support the continuing war of President Rodrigo Duterte against prohibited drugs.” (BOC) – jlo
