Palace disagrees with new SWS survey, says ‘worst is over’

Malacañang contradicted the latest survey result of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) on the perception of the public regarding the COVID-19 crisis in the country.

Based on the survey, the number of Filipinos who believe that the “worst is yet to come” with the pandemic increased to 57 percent in July from the 47 percent rating in May. The survey also showed that the percentage of adult Filipinos who said that “the worst is behind us” has declined to 35 percent from 44 percent in the same period.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the government is continuously addressing the crisis situation. Filipinos may still continue with their livelihood with cautiousness and cooperation.

“Ang masasabi ko lang po, the worst is over. Kaya lang naman po talaga tayo we hit rock bottom, dahil isinara natin ang ekonomiya (I can only say that the worst is over. We only hit rock bottom because we closed down our economy),” Roque stated.

“Pero ang sinasabi lang po ng ating Pangulo, pwede naman pong mabuhay basta pag-ingatan po ang ating mga kalusugan para tayo ay makapaghanap-buhay at makakamit natin ito sa pamamagitan ng paghugas, mask, at iwas (The President is saying that we can live as long as we take care of our health so we can work, and we can achieve this by washing, wearing of face masks, and prevention),” Roque added.

The survey was conducted last July 3 to 6 through mobile phone and computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI). – Report from Mela Lesmoras
