Palace releases new guidelines on workplace and mall operations in GCQ areas

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has laid out the new directives of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) Resolution no. 33 including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Interim Guidelines on Workplace Prevention and Control of COVID-19 and Guidelines on the Operations of Malls and Shopping Centers in areas declared under General Community Quarantine.

The DTI and DOLE have recommended the adaption of alternative work arrangements such as working-hour shifts, work from home, and on rotation basis to minimize the contact rate of workers. Online system or videoconferencing are recommended instead of physical meetings. If face-to-face interaction is unavoidable, it should not last long. Office tables or workstations must also be arranged with physical distancing.

In mall operations, authorities remind the public that the number of people in shopping centers must be limited. One step from each other must be observed in escalators while only vulnerable persons are allowed in elevators. The air-con must be set at 26 degrees centigrade, and Wi-Fi must be turned off. Police visibility will also be increased for security. Sales and other marketing events that entice more people are also not allowed.
