BINALONAN, Pangasinan — The Binalonan Police Station (BPS), starting Tuesday, will sing Christmas carols and give Noche Buena food, among others, to this town’s indigent residents.

Chief Insp. Arvin Jacob, Binalonan police chief, said Project PASKO, or Pasalubong na Alay Sa Kababayan kong Binalonians, is their way of helping indigent residents here to celebrate the holiday season.

“Our policemen and women (will) sing Christmas carols but instead of them getting the money from the residents, they will be the one to give gifts to the chosen residents,” Jacob said in an interview.

The BPS’ first beneficiaries are three families from Barangay Felipe Sur, who were identified as poor with the aid of barangay officials.

“We hope to give to all the 24 barangays, as long as there will be more donations for this project,” Jacob said.

Project PASKO’s funding was sourced from individual donors and gift items such as used clothes, shoes, among others, were donated through a box located at the police station.

“We are urging our town mates and even those others who want to give to this project, to visit our station. They could also join us in the caroling,” he noted.

Jacob, however, discouraged politicians from using the project for electioneering.

“We are non-partisan, so we hope if they would help, they would not use us and the project for their campaigning,” he added.
