MALASIQUI, Pangasinan — Aside from being one of the pillars of peace and order in this town, the Malasiqui police became joy-givers to some 3,000 young and old indigents from the 73 barangays here.
“The moment you see the children and the seniors smile and laugh, that’s already a fulfillment for us. Also, we do this to bring the police closer to the people, to let them feel that we are here for them not just on law enforcement but services that could add joy and laughter to their lives,” Supt. Franklin Ortiz, Malasiqui Police chief, said in an interview on Wednesday.
Both young and old enjoyed a one-day Christmas activity filled with fun, food and gifts, held at the Malasiqui Central School here on Saturday.
Ortiz said the activity, dubbed as “Pulis Good Deeds: Pamaskong Handog para sa mga Bata at Matatanda”, was co-sponsored by the municipal government and the Malasiqui Advisory Council (MAC).
“In observance of the holiday season, especially Christmas. It’s a time of giving and sharing the blessings to the less fortunate members of the community. For the Malasiqui Police, it’s our way of thanking the community for their cooperation by sharing gifts to the people and also a time to make them happy. And despite being less fortunate, there are people who care for them and extend a hand to brighten up their day even in our own little ways, of course in partnership with stakeholders with kind hearts who are also willing to share and give joy,” he said.
Grocery packages were distributed and rice porridge with egg was served to the town’s indigents.
He said the Pangasinan Police mascot and a clown performed and played with the children.
The police here also distributed candies, popcorn, cotton candies, cupcakes and oranges, he added.
The Malasiqui Police thanked the municipal government headed by Mayor Noel Anthony Geslani, MAC chairman lawyer Carlito Soriano, and all those who have supported the activity on their official Facebook page.
