With Palm Sunday signaling the start of the solemn observance of Holy Week for millions of Filipinos, Malacañang expressed its oneness with the citizenry as they unplug from the daily grind to take a rest and reconnect with their spiritual roots.
In a message uploaded to social media on Sunday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. revisited the essence of this week-long ‘pause’ from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
He began his remarks by commemorating the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who saved humankind from the dreadfulness of sin by offering his life in accordance with the will of the Father.
“The Passion of Christ reminds us that true greatness is not found in power, but in sacrifice; not in privilege, but in service; and not in comfort, but in the courage to carry the burdens of others.”
President Marcos Jr. moreover cited the ordeals that Jesus Christ endured in the final days of His life, which involved mockery and beatings at the behest of Pontius Pilate, who ordered his crucifixion along with other criminals at Golgotha.
In remembering such events that eventually culminated in the glory of His Resurrection, the Chief Executive encouraged the citizenry to live by the ideals set forth by the Son of Man, who gave up everything just to shield His believers from the evil that surrounds them.
“As we reflect on His sacrifice, may we renew our commitment to love one another more deeply, serve one another more faithfully, and stand firm in faith even in the face of trials. May Jesus Christ’s example inspire us to face our own challenges with humility, perseverance, and hope.”
He concluded, “For in every act of compassion, every hand extended to those in need, and every sacrifice made for the good of others, we keep alive the spirit of His message.”
