PCC urged to probe reported merger of TV5, ABS-CBN

SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta on Wednesday, Aug. 10, urged the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) to probe the reported merger of TV5 and ABS-CBN.

In an interview with Radyo Pilipinas, said that it is possible that the law “is being bent” on the possible merging of two broadcast stations.

Marcoleta said PCC should look into whether it is “possible to monopolize the broadcast media industry” through the merger.

“TV 5 malaki yan, pagkatapos ABS-CBN, mamomonopolize ang industry dito. Wala bang say dito ang Philippine Competition Commission?” he said.

“Hindi naman ganun, kaya nga tayo naglatag ng ganitong agency para tingnan ang lahat ng kapakanan ng mga apektadong sektor. Magiging monopoly ito kung tutuusin mo diba?” he added.

Aside from PCC, Marcoleta prodded the National Telecommunications Commision and the Bureau of Internal Revenue to “investigate the evidence they gathered” against ABS-CBN’s alleged violations. — gb
