Moving beyond addressing the prevailing energy emergency in the country, government agencies continue to find ways to uplift the quality of life for the commuting public.

This, as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) led the official launch of its “Libreng Sakay” program, which would help ease the financial burden for those who heavily rely on public transportation to get to their destinations.

The initiative is expected to benefit workers, students, and other commuters who travel to work, school, or other places of convenience within Metro Manila.

Two (2) PCSO buses will provide free rides and follow the routes of SM Fairview to Quiapo and vice versa, offering accessible transportation assistance to commuters travelling through some of Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfares.

The free transportation service will operate from Monday to Friday during peak commuting hours, with morning trips scheduled from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM and afternoon trips from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM to accommodate commuters during rush hours.

PCSO General Manager Melquiades “Mel” Robles said the program is part of the agency’s broader effort to provide accessible and people-centered assistance to the public.

“In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to support our commuting public, PCSO launched the Libreng Sakay Program to provide our fellow Filipinos who travel daily for work, school, and other essential activities with safer, more convenient, and accessible transportation along major routes in Metro Manila.”

This program reflects the agency’s commitment to extend meaningful public service beyond its core mandate by supporting the daily needs of Filipinos.
