PDEA hosts 9th ICAD meeting

MANILA — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) hosted the 9th Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) meeting held Monday.

PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino presided the meeting as ICAD Chairman who has the overall responsibility in ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of its objective.

Significant topics have been tackled in the meeting, including the Balay Silangan program in line with the rehabilitation and reintegration function of ICAD.

Balay Silangan is an offshoot of Bahay Pagbabago, a reformation center conceptualized in the Province of Bataan by the Bataan Police Provincial Office. Given the program’s success in the province, it was later expanded to the rest of the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) which was formerly headed by Aquino.

PDEA, through the Plans and Operations Service, presented the proposal of granting Sagisag ng Tagumpay Laban sa Ilegal na Droga Award to deserving individuals as part of its effort in recognizing those who contributed to anti- drug campaign.

The Barangay Drug Clearing Program that aims to incorporate optimistic approach of different member agencies in addressing drug problem to be discussed by the PDEA Preventive Education and Community Involvement Service (PECIS).

The ICAD meets regularly to unify, synchronize and integrate all anti-drug programs of the government.

Created under Executive Order No. 15, the ICAD, composed of 41 member agencies, is aligned to the priority program of the PRRD’s administration to suppress the drug problem in the country through a collaborative effort of government member agencies through a balanced and integrated approach of drug supply and demand reduction strategies. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
