MANILA, July 13 — The country’s automotive vehicle sales for June 2017 increased by 14.1 percent year-on-year, the joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) stated Thursday.
Auto sales for June 2017 reached 37,631 units from 35,469 units in June last year.
Both passenger car and commercial vehicle segments posted double-digit growth in the said period.
Passenger cars sold a total of 13,677 units in June 2017, which grew by 14.4 percent from 11,951 units a year ago.
Passenger cars accounted for 36 percent of total CAMPI and TMA sales in June.
The bulk of sales in June this year were from sales of commercial vehicle which sold 23,954 units, increasing by 13.8 percent from 21,042 units sold in June of previous year.
Sub-segments of commercial vehicles, except for trucks and buses category five, had double-digit growth between 12 to 20 percent in June 2017.
Light commercial vehicle segment shared the largest sales in June 2017 with 15,278 units sold in the period.
This is followed by Asian utility vehicle with sales of 7,414 units, light trucks with 749 units, trucks and buses category four with 356 units, and category five with 157 units being sold last month.
“The overall sales last June is relatively higher compared to that of May’s due to the well-maintained inventory levels helping the prompt delivery of vehicles amongst the major players. All these factors led to our improved sales in June 2017,” CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez said.
“In addition to a good stock level, manufacturers maximized “dealer push” that brought higher sales specifically to their key models,” Gutierrez added.
Meanwhile, sales of CAMPI and TMA increased by 17.1 percent to 196,164 units in the first half of 2017 from 167,480 units in the same period last year.
Commercial vehicle still accounted for lion’s share of sales in the first half of the year reaching 128,984 units, growing by 22.9 percent from 104,920 units in the first semester of 2016.
Sales of passenger cars rose 7.4 percent year-to-date to 67,180 units in H1 2017 from 62,560 units H1 2016.
