DAGUPAN CITY — The Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) office in this city earned about PHP21 million in 2018 from shipments of various parcels – mostly of medicines, beauty products and documents.

Lorenzo Dacasin Jr., acting postmaster of Philpost Dagupan and chief of the sub-distribution center, said it recorded 38,507 outbound and 50,299 inbound domestic transactions last year.

Dacasin said higher shipments indicate that Philpost has an edge over private companies because of its “mission” to deliver even to the farthest places in the country.

“For instance, we deliver medical supplies to centers or school supplies in schools in far-flung areas. It is our mission to deliver even if it meant having to cross rivers or walk in mountainous areas,” he said in an interview Wednesday.

Dacasin said they also ship documents or parcels abroad even without the contact number of the person or office where they will deliver.

He noted that online marketing also boosted the patronage of Philpost courier service, as products from abroad bought online are being shipped through their office.

“Most of our inbounds are from the online store Alibaba. And of course, our overseas Filipino workers from Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan are also our customers in inbound,” he added.

Dacasin further said citizens from the United States, Canada and Europe still send holiday greeting cards through Philpost.

“They are more sentimental and they prefer to send greeting cards instead of online greeting cards. Also, those who are eyeing for immigration in other countries through fiancé petition, they need letters sent as proof of their long-distance relationship,” he added.

Philpost rate ranges from PHP41 for ordinary mail (not more than 20 grams) up to PHP1,000 for express mail.

Dacasin said December until February is the delivery peak season.
