DAVAO CITY — World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Youth Flyweight Champion Jayson “Smasher” Mama is now qualified in the final round of the IBF Silkroad Tournament in China on March 28.

Mama, who holds a record of 11 wins, 6 knockouts, and zero loss, will face Thai veteran and International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific Flyweight Champion Teeraphong Utaida (W38 KO 21 L6 D1) on March 28.

Mama acknowledged that he is less experienced than his Thai opponent but expressed confidence that he will come home with the belt.

“He (Utaida) is a seasoned veteran and a former world title challenger,” Mama said.

Mama, however, believes in his skill as well as more hungry than Utaida.

“I will keep my record clean and win this tournament,” he added.

Mama scored a unanimous decision over Yinhuan Su of China in Wynn Palace Cotai, Macau on August 5, 2018. He earlier stopped Michael Camelion in the 9th round via a technical knockout in Gaisano Mall General Santos City on January 21, 2018 to win the vacant WBO Oriental Youth flyweight title.

He then kayoed Wiljan Ugbaniel in Matti, Digos City in Round 2 last June 27.

“It is a stepping up fight for Mama. It is his chance to be in the upper class among fighters,” said SanMan Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil.
