PNP: Checkpoint situation getting better

The Philippine National Police (PNP) bared checkpoints are no longer in disarray almost two weeks after the enhanced community quarantine was implemented.

The statement refers to the entry and exit points in the National Capital Region (NCR) in particular, and the whole island of Luzon.

PNP Spokesperson PBGEN. Bernard Banac surmised it is due to the continuous decrease in the number of motorists and the fear of the COVID-19 virus.

“Kaya ngayon ang ating concentration ay ‘yung maintenance of order sa mga residential areas at ‘yung relief operations (So our concentration now is on the maintenance of order in residential areas and relief operations),” Banac said.

The PNP also said they will be more careful, especially those assigned to frontline duties in quarantine control points, due to the increased number of individuals infected by COVID-19.

The precautionary measures of the police include the implementation of police-wide biosafety plan inside Camp Crame and other camps.

Under the plan, all personnel of the national police returning to their field duty will undergo decontamination procedure.

PNP Chief PGEN. Archie Gamboa earlier admitted any policeman assigned in Luzon while performing their duties have a higher chance to be infected by the virus.

Meanwhile, the PNP as a frontliner in the COVID-19 fight, has also supported the proclamation of the National Week of Prayer. – Report from Rocky Lesigues
