PNP keeping close watch on ‘drug lords’ eyeing village posts

MANILA-Police officials have expressed concerned over drug personalities who plan to run for baranggay positions in the upcoming elections in May.

Barangay officials implicated in the trade of illegal drugs will be the subject of closer scrutiny by anti-drug units,Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao said in a press briefing Thursday.

“Kasama sila doon sa mga bibigyan ng pansin ng anti-drug units and definitely the president would not like them, would not want them to be elected that’s why ang DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) and PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) have already made some pronouncements the possibility of these candidates to be elected. Ayaw nila as much as possible na magkaroon ng elected officials na involved sa illegal drugs (They are part of the ones our anti-drug units are monitoring, and definitely the president wouldn’t like them, would not like them to be elected that’s why the DILG and PDEA have announced the possibility of these candidates to be elected. As much as possible, they don’t want elected officials involved in illegal drugs),” Bulalacao said.

“We will exert our extra effort to monitor the candidates who will be supported by these drug syndicates at si chief PNP Ronald dela Rosa I am sure ayaw nyang makabalita na mga kandidato na susuportahan nitong mga drug personalities,” Bulalacao added.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10246, the synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will be on May 14.
