PNP open for investigation, eyes use of ‘non-violent’ weapons

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is open for investigation on the alleged human rights violations committed by its policemen.

PNP Chief PGen. Archie Gamboa insisted that they conduct their own investigation when one of their personnel is involved in any incident such as the spat in an exclusive village in Makati.

Gamboa assured they will strictly implement the law amid the accusations thrown at the PNP. He added that the PNP is considering buying equipment other than firearms such as tasers to be used in their operations.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights recently claimed the government’s response against the COVID-19 pandemic is highly militarized.

Meanwhile, the PNP has warned militant groups who plan to rally on Labor Day that they could be arrested for violating enhanced community quarantine protocols.
