Polio virus present in Davao River

The Davao City Health Office has confirmed the presence of polio virus in the city’s water ways, particularly Davao River. Davao City Health Office Head, Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, said that the findings are based on the result of monitoring done in August. Residents are advised not to let their children swim in the said river and in public pools until Davao’s waterways are declared polio virus-free. Other than the mass vaccination against polio for children five-years old and below, who are are vunerable to the disease, the Davao City Health Office plans to meet with barangay hospital personnel, and owners of hotels and resorts with public swimming pools in the city to prevent polio from spreading any further.
