Pres. Duterte names new PhilHealth chief

President Rodrigo R. Duterte has introduced Monday night former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Atty. Dante Gierran as the new PhilHealth President.

The President has given Gierran a strict order to eradicate anomalies in the agency. Gierran has accepted his mandate and vowed to efficiently serve the public.

The Chief Executive has also ordered the firing of Regional Vice Presidents of PhilHealth. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque later clarified the meaning of the President’s statement in his briefing that he only wants them to be relocated.

“Malinaw po ang konteksto. Hindi po dapat in isolation of everything he said. Familiarity breeds contempt so ililipat ‘yung mga regional. (The context is clear. It should not be in isolation of everything he said. Familiarity breeds contempt so the regional [VPs] will be relocated.)”

Newly-appointed PhilHealth Chief Atty. Dante Gierran will replace Retired General Ricardo Morales who recently filed his resignation and is currently fighting cancer. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
