Malacañang expressed it is not convinced there is a brewing coup in the House of Representatives against House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, and said President Duterte won’t interfere if there is any.
“Again, the President does not interfere. Paulit-ulit na nating sinasabi ‘yan. That’s an internal affair of the congress, hindi siya makikialama diyanb, unless you ask him to settle whatever rift they have, if there is any,” Panelo said.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the majority of congressmen seem content on the leadership of Cayetano despite some issues.
Panelo also said if Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco has problems with them, the President will keep his hands off of it. Velasco is set to replace Cayetano should the latter get ousted or after he completes 15 months as House Speaker.
Cayetano and Velasco have settled into a term sharing agreement before, wherein Cayetano will take the seat for 15 months, and Velasco on the remaining 21 months. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
