PRRD to NGCP: I don’t want brown-outs

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte directed the energy officials to ensure that there will be no rotational brown-outs to happen in the country.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on Monday (June 28) President Duterte had given the directive in a meeting with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) last week.

“Ang bottom line, sinabi ni Presidente, “Ayaw kong magkaroon ng rotational brownouts,” Sec. Roque shared.

In the said meeting, the NGCP explained to the President that the power supply is lacking. Despite the legal basis to procure power, it can only strengthen the power grid and not add more power to the supply.

Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi initially assured the public that they are doing their best to ensure adequate power supply in the country.
