Rogue cop in shabu ‘recycling’ killed in Rizal buy-bust

MANILA — A policeman allegedly involved in recycling of confiscated illegal drugs was killed in a buy-bust operation in Morong, Rizal, the Philippine National Police Counter Intelligence Task Force (PNP CITF) said Wednesday.

PNP CITF commander Senior Supt. Romeo M. Caramat said the suspect, PO2 Gemmo Meneses, assigned at the Morong Police Station, was killed when he shot it out with operatives of the sting operation from the CITF, Intelligence Group and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The armed encounter with Meneses occurred around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect drew his firearm when he sensed that he was dealing with a poseur-buyer policeman and aimed towards the operatives, prompting the latter to return fire.

He was brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The operation stemmed from an intelligence report claiming that Meneses led the “recycling” of shabu seized in operations and distributed it to street drug pushers in the said town. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
