‘Rosita’ leaves P12.34-M initial agri damage in Aurora

BALER, Aurora — The onslaught of Typhoon Rosita has caused an initial PHP12.34-million damage to agriculture in this province.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), headed by acting Governor Rommel Rico T. Angara, convened on Wednesday to assess the extent of damages brought by the typhoon.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Amado Elson A. Egargue said that among those badly affected by Rosita were the agricultural areas in the northern part of the province that were placed under tropical cyclone warning signal No. 3.

Egargue said the town of Maria Aurora has initially reported some PHP10.177 million worth of agricultural loss.

This was followed by Dinalungan town with PHP1.68 million.

San Luis likewise suffered the fury of Typhoon Rosita with an initial PHP520,00 agricultural damage.

“So far, this is the initial report of damage in terms of agriculture. The other towns have yet to submit their reports. The PDRRMO is coordinating with different local disaster offices to determine the effect of the typhoon,” Egargue said.

He said PDRRMO personnel will visit the northern Aurora towns to assess the damages and to know the situation of the residents there.

Meanwhile, he said all the evacuees have safely returned to their homes.

Based on the PDRRMO report, there are at least 4,076 families or 12,983 persons displaced by “Rosita”.

“Likewise, all roads are passable and accessible leading to this province,” Egargue said.

Meanwhile, electric power supply is not yet stable in the towns of Dinalungan, Casiguran, Dilasag as well as in Barangay Calaocan in Dipaculao and the coastal barangays in San Luis.

Egargue said the provincial government of Aurora has provided 800 family food packs in northern Aurora and some PHP188,280. worth of relief goods in Casiguran town.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also provided 1,150 family food packs in the towns of Dinalungan, Casiguran and Dilasag. (Jason De Asis/PNA)
