Scattered rains to prevail over Visayas, Mindanao

By Ma. Cristina Arayata | Philippine News Agency

MANILA – Scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over the Visayas and Mindanao due to the shear line, the weather bureau said on Thursday, Dec. 30.

Grace Castañeda, the weather specialist of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said residents of these islands must take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains.

The northeast monsoon affecting Luzon will cause light rains over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.

Likewise, it will bring isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of the island.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon, the Visayas, and the northern and eastern sections of Mindanao.

Strong to gale force winds will be experienced over the northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon, eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon, eastern seaboard of southern Luzon, western seaboard of northern Luzon, western and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon, western seaboard of the Visayas, and eastern seaboards of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Sea travel is risky for fishing boats and other small seacrafts, and larger vessels are alerted against big waves.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA) – bny
