Sen. Chiz Escudero files COC for governor of Sorsogon

LEGAZPI CITY — Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero filed on Friday morning his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Governor of the province of Sorsogon at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office in Sorsogon City.

Ging Villanueva Gumabay, of Senator Escudero’s public affairs office, said the senator was accompanied by his wife Heart Evangelista and his running mate, Barcelona town Mayor Manuel Fortes, in submitting their respective COCs to the Sorsogon Comelec Election Supervisor at around 11:30 a.m.

Escudero and Fortes, after signing the forms, presented their respective COCs to lawyer Calixto Aquino J.r, Comelec Sorsogon election supervisor.

Aquino, after reviewing the COC accomplished form of Escudero, found that the documents were all in order and subsequently logged Escudero’s name on the roster of official candidates for the upcoming May 2019 National and Local Elections.

Escudero and his wife, clad in white shirt and dress, respectively, and his 10 candidates for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) and hundreds of followers held a motorcade before the filing of COCs.

Escudero, who remains an independent candidate, will be the guest candidate for Governor of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition (NPC).

Under the Escudero team, his mother Elvie would be running for reelection for Congress representing the 1st district of Sorsogon. Mari Bernardita Ramos would run as Representative for the 2nd District.

Juan Escandor Jr., a journalist, running as an independent and an anti-dynasty advocate has filed on Thursday his COCs as candidate for Congress representing the 2nd District of Sorsogon.

Escandor would challenge Bernardita Ramos, the sister of Congressman Ding Ramos who is in his last term in Congress.

Meanwhile, in Albay, only a few local candidates have filed their COCs for reason that candidates believe that under the Chinese geomancy or Feng Shui, the dates with numbers 11 and 12 are not winning numbers.

COMELEC Albay office reported that so far, 10 candidates for the local post have submitted their COCs. (Mar Serrano/PNA)
