Slower COVID-19 spread in Navotas linked to localized lockdown, protocol compliance

The slowdown in the COVID-19 case increase in Navotas City is being attributed to the intensified implementation of health protocols and localized lockdowns.

Based on the data of OCTA Research Group, Navotas is among the cities observed to have slowed down COVID-19 transmission with a current reproduction number of 1.8, down from last month’s 2.4.

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco said the conduct of testing to all residents showing symptoms of the disease contributed to the development.

“Hindi naman namin hinintay na tumaas ‘yung kaso bago kami nag-localized lockdown. Basta’t pasok sa criteria na localized lockdown, ipinapatupad agad ‘yung localized lockdown (We did not wait for cases to rise before we imposed localized lockdown. As long as it meets the criteria, we immediately implement it),” Tiangco explained.

At least 10 areas remain under lockdown with affected families continuously receiving assistance. The imposition of the unified curfew in the city also proceeded smoothly, considering the implementation of the same 10PM to 5AM curfew since February.

Meanwhile, information drives for senior citizens are ongoing in preparation for the expected rollout of vaccines to other priority sectors. – Report from Ryan Lesigues
