Solons appeal delay in interbank charges increase amidst COVID-19 pandemic

Lawmakers appealed to delay the increase in interbank charges in ATM transactions that starts on April 7.

Among those who called for the postponement are Bayan Muna Representative Carlos Isagani Zarate and Senior Partylist Congressman Rodolfo Ordanes.

According to Rep. Zarate, the increased charges is not timely especially now that majority of Filipinos have not yet recovered from the effect of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Congressman Ordanes called the charges as a burden to government employees and senior citizens.

Several banks have initially announced the increase in charges starting April. Interbank withdrawals will cost around ₱10 to ₱18 by then while the balance inquiry will be around ₱1.50 to ₱2. -PTV News
