Statement of DFA on the Explosion in Beirut, Lebanon

The DFA, through the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon reports that a powerful explosion occurred in the Port of Beirut on 04 August 2020, reportedly resulting in several fatalities and dozens injured, as well as causing widespread damage throughout the city. Lebanese authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion.

The Philippine Embassy is in touch with the Filipino community in Lebanon to assess the situation and provide assistance to any affected Filipinos. So far, no Filipinos have been reported injured or killed by the explosion.
