Suspects in Cotabato mall blast identified: Lorenzana

MANILA — The suspects behind the Cotabato City bombing attack, which killed two persons and wounded 34 others, have already been identified, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said during the sidelines of the New Year’s Call in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Tuesday.

The defense chief said the suspects were found to have links with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

“We have already identified the perpetrators, hindi pa namin binibigay yung pangalan (we are not yet giving their names) but apparently they are connected with the BIFF and they are now under tactical investigation para malaman natin kung ano talaga ang purpose nila kung bakit sila nagpaputok dun (for us to know their purpose in carrying out the attack),” he added.

Lorenzana said they are still determining the motives of the suspects as there are a lot of angles to consider.

“To disrupt or to intimidate o di kaya kinokotongan nila yung South Seas Mall, hindi nagbabayad (Or maybe they are extoring money from South Seas Mall and the mall is not paying them). We don’t know yet kung ano yung motives nila (what their motives are),” he added.
