SWS survey: 34% of Filipinos say life worsened in past 12 months

The latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed that 34% of Filipinos said the quality of their lives worsened in the last 12 months, lower by six points from the 40% record in December 2021.

Based on the survey published on Thursday, June 16, around 32% of the respondents believe their lives have improved while 34% said nothing has changed in terms of their status.

Malacañang welcomed in a statement on Friday the survey results which showed a development from last survey period’s figures.

“We note the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) Survey showing 32% of adult Filipino respondents thought their lives had gotten better off in April 2022 compared to 24% who had the same sentiment in December 2021,” Acting Presidential Spokesperson Martin Andanar said.

“We view this improvement an incontrovertible proof that the current government’s pandemic response is working, where we put premium on both health and the economy,” he added.

For senator-elect Chiz Escudero, the government should be “all hands on deck” to come up with immediate solutions for the people, including problems faced by micro, small. and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“Kapag nasolusyunan natin ang problema ng MSMEs, parang nasolusyunan na rin natin ang halos 99 porsyento ng problema sa ekonomiya at kakulangan ng trabaho,” he said.

Senator Imee Marcos likewise said that there should be a long-term solution to address skyrocketing prices of goods and petroleum products.  –Report from Eunice Samonte-ag
