Talks ongoing over road closures for EDSA-Kamuning southbound flyover rehab

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are in the middle of talks over the need for a full road closure at the EDSA-Kamuning southbound flyover.

The road closure being mulled over is for the flyover’s rehabilitation which was originally set for April but was postponed due to the election ban.

MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes said a decision may be announced Saturday or on Monday at the latest.

Andy Vizorde, assistant district engineer of Quezon City 2nd District Engineering Office, said it will take at least a week to repair the part of the flyover where a crack was seen. 

“Magre-recasting tayo. So ‘yung recasting, ‘yung mismong slump tatanggalin natin, so magkakaroon pa ng – magpapalit tayo ng rebars then concrete pouring. Siguro marami pa ang preparation na gagawin so target namin mga one week,” he said.

The DPWH is pleading for patience of over 143,000 motorists who travel along and across the flyover from Quezon Ave. to EDSA-Timog daily due to the possible total closure of the structure once rehabilitation begins. 

Neomie Recio, head of MMDA Traffic Engineering Center, disclosed that the discussion between the DPWH and the MMDA has not yet included the possible closure of the U-turn slot beneath the flyover.

The MMDA has laid out alternate routes to help motorists avoid traffic, including passing through West Ave.,Scout Borromeo, and Mother Ignacia where signages of Mabuhay Lanes are found.

The government has appropriated around P47 million for the rehabilitation and repair of the flyover which will start once the crack has been fixed. Report from Gillian Geronimo-ag
