Third telco DITO eyes operations in 2021

New telco player DITO Telecommunity disclosed its intent to start its operations on March 2021 and help address the internet connection problems in the country with its services.

“We’re bringing in the brand-new technology, the 5G technology, and once we are able to bring that hopefully by 2022, the experience of the telco will really be, it will almost seem like science fiction,” DITO Telecom Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano claimed.
At least 850 towers have been established in different locations in the country, including military camps. This is more than half of the target of 1,300 towers to be built during the first year.

Tamano assured that the building of telco towers within military camps will not pave the way for espionage.

“We would never do that. Why would a Filipino ever allow himself to [be] used as, for anything that would be detrimental of his country?” Tamano stressed.

The company also emphasized that its ownership is in accordance with the constitutional requirement on public utilities wherein 60 percent of the company is owned by Filipinos. Majority of its employees are also Filipino nationals.
