Tourist entertainment hub to rise at Paoay sand dunes

LAOAG CITY—The vast sand dunes of Paoay have not only charmed movie makers.

This time, investors of Royal Blue Tours, a Dubai-based travel agency, is set to establish an entertainment hub at the Culili point in the coastal village of Masintoc, Paoay town.

Rolly Galzote of the Investment Office of the provincial government confirmed this on Friday following the February 26 ocular inspection at the proposed site by a group of investors.

The Culili point of Paoay offers a unique view of the West Philippine Sea. Around this point is the sprawling sand dunes declared as a national geographical monument that expands from the borders of Currimao, Paoay and La Paz in Laoag City.

There is also a pasture area within it that looks like a portion of Sabtang Island in Batanes.

The area is a popular destination for off-road vehicle riding and sand boarding, a recreational activity similar to snowboarding.

This extreme sport involves riding across or down a dune while standing with both feet strapped to a board, though some sandboarders use a board without bindings.

According to Galzote, the Royal Blue Tours is eyeing to develop a three-hectare area where the company plans to establish a restaurant with bailey dancers to provide entertainment.

With the influx of tourists visiting the province, the Dubai-based travel company aims to cater to tourists aboard luxury ships that dock at the Omnico seaport in the boundary of Badoc and Currimao.

A double-deck bus is expected to transfer passengers from the seaport, which is just approximately a 15-minute drive to the Culili point.(PNA)
