Tuguegarao ECQ extension sought

The local government of Tuguegarao has sought the extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the city until September 5.

Tuguegarao City Information Office said in its announcement on Monday afternoon (Aug. 30) that the extension followed the recommendation of the health sector due to the number of COVID-19 hospital admissions.

The Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) has conducted a meeting on the matter, and has yet to release an announcement on the next quarantine classifications.

The ECQ in the city was initially set to expire today. Tuguegarao currently has 1,335 active COVID-19 cases after 60 new cases were reported.

Meanwhile, the expanded city-wide disinfection activities were conducted by Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel, barangay workers, and several volunteers.

A stepdown isolation facility was also established in the city to augment the capacity of Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross-Cagayan Chapter.

Latest biosurveillance report from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that 32 new Delta variant cases were detected in Region 2, including 10 in Cagayan, 15 in Isabela, five in Nueva Vizcaya, and two in Quirino.

Of the 32 cases, 30 were declared recovered and two have succumbed to the disease. – Report from Oliver Baccay-PIA 2/AG-rir
